Welcome to the first Hispanic Music Festival of Pittsburg. It ​is an honor for us to bring you this series that is dedicated ​to you. This series is part of the many celebrations honoring ​Hispanic Heritage Month at Pittstate.


This festival gives us the opportunity to share our traditions ​and honor our roots through music. I invite you to travel ​with us through the sounds, to imagine together what ​Hispanic-America sounds like in its daily life, to feel the ​energy of the hearts of its people and perhaps, to taste our ​many delicious foods.


Enjoy each of the concerts that we have prepared with much ​love for all of you and may this festival be the first of many.

Pittsburg Hispanic Banda was founded in 2023 to celebrate ​Hispanic Heritage Month. Many of the members are ​Pittsburg area residents who graduated from Pitt State and ​are now music teachers as well as performers, and a few are ​Pitt State students.

Miguel Pacheco was born in Mexico City and began his musical ​studies when he was 7 years old with his father. His second ​teacher was Jesus Rebollar, a member of the Typical Orchestra ​of Mexico City, which he joined in 1986, where he was the ​Principal Psalterist for 10 years.


He has taken Mexican music to all the states of Mexico and ​countries such as the United States, Costa Rica, Argentina, ​France, Monaco, Korea, and Germany, among others. He has ​recorded on more than 100 albums for different artists. He has ​been a psaltery maker since 1984.

Miguel Pacheco nació en la Ciudad de México y comenzó sus ​estudios musicales a los 7 años de edad con su padre. Su ​segundo maestro fue Jesús Rebollar, integrante de la Orquesta ​Típica de la Ciudad de México, a la que se incorporó en 1986, ​donde fue Salterista Principal durante 10 años.


Ha llevado la música mexicana a todos los estados de la ​República Mexicana y a países como Estados Unidos, Costa ​Rica, Argentina, Francia, Mónaco, Corea y Alemania, entre ​otros. Ha grabado en más de 100 discos para diferentes ​artistas. Es constructor de salterios desde 1984.

Melinda Groves received her Bachelor of Music degree and ​master’s degree in piano performance from Emporia State ​University, Emporia, Kansas. As an undergraduate, she ​studied with Professor J. Earl Lee at Augustana University in ​Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and, while at ESU, with Dr. Martin ​Cuellar. A long-time member of various music organizations ​including the Music Teachers National Association and ​Federated Teachers of Music and Fine Arts, she has served in ​various offices including president of her local MTNA group, ​and is currently a board member for Mid America Music ​Association. She is active as a private piano instructor, ​church music director, and as an adjudicator at the local, ​district, and state level. Melinda enjoys creating music with ​others as a collaborative performer in choral music, musical ​theater, and as a duo pianist, and has performed both ​nationally and internationally.

Melinda Groves recibió su licenciatura en Música y su ​maestría en interpretación de piano en la Universidad Estatal ​de Emporia, Emporia, Kansas. Como estudiante de ​licenciatura, estudió con el profesor J. Earl Lee en la ​Universidad Augustana en Sioux Falls, Dakota del Sur, y, ​mientras estaba en ESU, con el Dr. Martin Cuellar. Miembro ​desde hace mucho tiempo de varias organizaciones ​musicales, incluida la Asociación Nacional de Maestros de ​Música y la Federación de Maestros de Música y Bellas Artes, ​ha trabajado en varios cargos, incluido el de presidente de su ​grupo local MTNA, y actualmente es miembro de la junta ​directiva de la Asociación de Música de Mid-America. Born in Mexico City, Isaac Hernandez started learning piano when he ​was 6 years old with his father as his first teacher. At age 12, he was ​accepted into the National Music School of UNAM, Eva del Carmen ​Medina Amezcua was his piano professor until he graduated.


In 2021, Isaac started his master’s degree in piano performance at ​Pittsburg State University under the guidance of Dr. Reena Natenberg. ​He won first prize in the Piano Competition hosted by the KMTA at the ​Graduate level. He won the Concerto-Aria Competition hosted by the ​Southeast Kansas Symphony, having the opportunity to play the first ​movement of the Piano Concerto n. 1 by F. Chopin. Along with these ​prizes, Isaac received diplomas for Outstanding Graduate Student at ​PSU and Outstanding Piano Student at PSU.


In 2023, Isaac played Rhapsody in Blue as a soloist with the PSU Wind ​Ensemble, and during the summer, won the first prize in the Treble Clef ​Piano Competition, hosted in the Bicknell Arts Center, Pittsburg, ​Kansas. He was appointed with the position of lecturer/Class piano at ​Pittsburg State University to begin in fall 2023.

Nacido en la Ciudad de México, Isaac Hernández comenzó a aprender ​piano cuando tenía 6 años con su padre como su primer maestro. ​Cuando tenía 12 años, fue aceptado en la Escuela Nacional de Música de ​la UNAM, Eva del Carmen Medina Amezcua fue su profesora de piano ​hasta que se graduó. En 2021, Isaac comenzó su maestría en ​interpretación de piano en la Universidad Estatal de Pittsburg bajo la ​guía de la Dra. Reena Natenberg. Ganó el primer premio en el Concurso ​de Piano organizado por la KMTA en el nivel de posgrado. Ganó el ​Concurso de Concierto-Aria organizado por la Sinfónica del Sureste de ​Kansas, teniendo la oportunidad de tocar el primer movimiento del ​Concierto para piano n.º 1 de F. Chopin. Junto con estos premios, Isaac ​recibió diplomas de Estudiante de Posgrado Destacado en PSU y ​Estudiante de Piano Destacado en PSU. En 2023, Isaac tocó Rhapsody in ​Blue como solista con el PSU Wind Ensemble, y durante el verano, Isaac ​ganó el primer premio en el Concurso de Piano Treble Clef, organizado ​en el Bicknell Arts Center, Pittsburg, Kansas. Ramiro Miranda joined the faculty at Pittsburg State ​University in 2023, teaching upper strings, conducting, and ​leading the Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra. As a ​violinist and chamber musician, he has given solo recitals in ​the United States, Latin America, and China. In addition to ​performing the standard solo and chamber music repertoires, ​he enjoys all improvisatory genres. He is a guest conductor ​with the Midwest Chamber Ensemble in Kansas City, ​university orchestras, and middle and high school honor ​orchestras. He has shared the stage with critically acclaimed ​classical guitarist Berta Rojas. He is a founding member of ​Jopara Ensemble, String Daze, and alternative styles string ​quartet Switchgrass. He is the recipient of many awards and ​honors, including a grant to attend the prestigious European ​American Musical Alliance’s Nadia Boulanger Institute at the ​historic Schola Cantorum in Paris.

Ramiro Miranda se unió a los catedráticos de la Universidad Estatal de ​Pittsburg en 2023, enseñando cuerdas, dirigiendo y liderando la Orquesta ​Sinfónica del Sureste de Kansas. Como violinista y músico de cámara, ​Miranda ha dado recitales como solista en los Estados Unidos, América ​Latina y China. Además de interpretar los repertorios estándar de ​música solista y de cámara, disfruta de todos los géneros de ​improvisación. Es director invitado del Midwest Chamber Ensemble en ​Kansas City, orquestas universitarias y orquestas de honor de escuelas ​secundarias y preparatorias.


Ha compartido escenario con la aclamada guitarrista clásica Berta Rojas, ​interpretando música de Barrios y Villa Lobos. Es miembro fundador de ​Ensamble Jopara, String Daze y el cuarteto de cuerdas de estilos ​alternativos Switchgrass. Irene Diaz Gill is a cellist and dedicated pedagogue, serving ​as the orchestra director at Pittsburg Middle and High ​Schools. Prior to teaching at the public schools, Irene taught ​cello at her private studio as well as at Emporia State ​University and Friends University. She co-founded and ​directed the youth orchestra program at the ESU Stringfully ​Academy as well as the ESU String Camp. Irene enjoys ​teaching and playing the cello in orchestras including the ​Midwest Chamber Ensemble, Wichita Grand Opera, ​Southeast Kansas Symphony, and other ensembles in the ​area. She performs regularly with the Jopara Ensemble, ​which specializes in Paraguayan music, and String Daze, ​which specializes in fiddle music from around the world.

Irene Díaz Gil es violonchelista, está dedicada a la pedagogía ​musical, y se desempeña como directora de orquesta en las ​escuela secundaria y preparatoria de Pittsburg. Antes de ​enseñar en las escuelas públicas, Irene enseñó violonchelo en ​su estudio privado, así como en la Universidad Estatal de ​Emporia y la Friends University. Fue cofundadora y dirigió el ​programa de orquesta juvenil en la Academia Stringfully de la ​ESU, así como en el Campamento de Cuerdas de la ESU. A ​Irene le gusta enseñar y tocar el violonchelo en orquestas ​como Midwest Chamber Ensemble, Wichita Grand Opera, ​Southeast Kansas Symphony y otros conjuntos de la zona. ​Actúa regularmente con el Ensamble Jopara, que se ​especializa en música paraguaya, y String Daze, que se ​especializa en música de violín de todo el mundo.

Original of Santa Catarina of the Mountain, Texcoco, State of Mexico. Graduated from ​the Conservatory National of Music, as a trumpet performance major, under the ​guide of the Teacher José Oviedo Rodriguez.


He has been the Principal Trumpet of the Orchestra Symphony of the University ​Guanajuato, San Luís Potosí Symphony Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra of the ​State of Mexico, Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra, Aguascalientes Symphony ​Orchestra, and as assistant with the Orchestra Symphony of Xalapa.

He has participated in the brass course taught by German Brass, as well as in other ​renowned ensembles such as Saint Louis Brass, Switzerland Brass, Fine Arts Brass, ​and Stockholm Chamber Brass assembly among others. In 2010 he attended a ​trumpet course in Saarbrucken, Germany taking classes with Mr. Peter Leiner, the ​first trumpet of the Orchestra of the Radio of Saarbrucken.

In 2007 he toured the Popular Republic of China with the Guanajuato Symphony ​Orchestra. In 2008, he participated with the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra on ​the tour that took place in many parts of the United States of America. In 2009, he ​toured with the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt. In ​2015 he toured Spain, Italy, and France with the National Ensemble of Trumpets, ​participating in courses and concerts with artists internationally renowned.


Recently, during the pandemic, he made a record album titled “Metamorphosis”, ​accompanied by the Mexican Metal Ensemble, as soloist and director.

He is currently the Principal Trumpet of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, ​Principal Trumpet of the Fine Arts Theater Orchestra (Opera), artistic director of the ​Texcoco Trumpet Academy, and Artistic Director of the Mexican brass ensemble.

Ha sido Trompeta Principal de la Orquesta ​Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato, Orquesta Sinfónica de San Luís Potosí, ​Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil del Estado de México, Orquesta Filarmónica de Acapulco, ​Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, y como asistente de la Orquesta Sinfónica de ​Xalapa.
